I guess we are all pretty familiar with the symbolism - and it's one that we constantly remind our staff. When people come to Anna Jet they do all sorts of crazy things .... dance on the pole, drop their pants and yes...... sometimes talk and more to people of the opposite sex!

Generally we encourage a live and let live attitude - as long as no one gets abused or irritated - then we pretty well allow anything (always remembering we are an Open Bar , but with rooms available). But this means that people should be able to enjoy themselves in confidence - I always ask before taking pictures for the web for example.

So we tell our girls not to talk about what happens in the bar, if someone brings a different girl into the Bar each evening - then fine, it's up to him. If we tell the new girl about those that came before .... then we will lose the customer and she probably won't thank us for knowing either!

I wouldn't dream of telling one of my girls what a customer got up to the day before - and equally, I wouldn't tell a customer what a girl was doing the night before.

We tell the girl that she doesn't own a customer just because she went with him on his last holiday - or last night. You can't own a girl either - irrespective of how much money you have spent or are sending her.

So please don't ask. There is plenty of advice as to the pros and cons of remotely sponsoring these girls on the Pattaya Forums.

Censorship in Thailand

The Blog Site "AbsolutelyBangkok" carried a very concerning article a few days ago http://absolutelybangkok.com/dangerous-ground/

Essentially it says that there are rumours that there is about to be a clampdown on Internet Sites that suggest that Thailand may be a Sex Tourism Destination.

I have always tried very hard not to cross a boundary of what can be considered "good taste" - yes, I hope we are fun, suggestive even, but never pornographic and certainly never promote anything unlawful. However reading the article I feel that we will be at risk of being blocked. The site is located outside Thailand - so a block wouldn't affect International visitors - but could make maintenance and updating more difficult.

Remember also that Thailand (under the last Military Coup) enacted legislation that makes it an offence to use a computer to spread anything that could be considered to be against Thailand's National Interest.

As a student, I was labelled a "Trotskyist", my fanzine was the Militant newspaper, Jack Straw and Trevor Phillips were right wing communists! (Sorry this will only make sense to UK politically aware residents). I remember campaigning against any form of National ID Databases and cards. People said that only criminals had reason to fear these things. I used to argue that 'criminal' was simply a label used by those in power to label those that threatened their power. Sadly, it looks as if in Thailand, this is beginning to happen.

So the AJ sites will be maintained and registered from the UK.

I hope I am being hyper -sensitive.

When I talk to people in Anna Jet, one comment is almost universal - "keep updating the site!!"

When you look at what people look at - it's the pictures! So I'll be trying to do just that. Hence the new camera, I can just keep it in my pocket when I'm in the Bar and whip it out (if you get my drift) whenever appropriate.

This was particularly inspired by a couple of girls a customer bought in who created some of the sexiest dancing on the pole I have every seen (without a dildo)!

We are also using a Facebook Page for the Bar. Facebook is one of those things that produce quite violent reactions - from "what a load of crap" to "it's my life" (sad, I know) - I guess I am somewhere in the middle - I am bemused and a bit bored by people sending me virtual flowers/pets/ thai food/ new products from their farm in the Mid-West / machine guns etc. But enjoy seeing what is going on amongst family and friends and interested in new videos and causes that people raise. But it is far more interactive than anything else we have on the web and enables a far wider potential circulation than from the main site or the forum.

So the photos will automatically go on the Facebook page and be repeated as videos here and on You Tube.

I love my camera, but it isn't exactly suited to a night on the town - and as they say, the best camera is the one with you when you see a shot!

So we have just updated our Point and Shoot - to a Sony T77 (now discontinued and suitably discounted) for Anna's use. It really is small enough to take everywhere with you, responds quickly - but it's flash is a bit weak.

But it was out with us in Casino (until 6) and then Insomnia.

About 10 years ago, my son Sam brought home a copy of a Gatecrasher CD - and my affiliation with House and Trance Music was created. Interestingly enough, he now listens to Dylan, Crosby .... et al. The stuff I listened to before!

Shortly after, I began to listen to a programme at 7pm on Sunday evenings on Radio 1 - the DJ was Dave Pearce. He played the same anthems that we play even now at Anna Jet - they are classic and timeless - and he did a lot more. Just before coming to Thailand I was working all week in the North East - Dave Pearce accompanied me on my Sunday drive up from the Cotswolds.

So, when I learnt he was going to be playing at Insomnia, I was determined to find the time to get there. And I did last night.

He come on at around 2am and was brilliant - and I, and a few other AJ customers who turned out to be there just jumped around like demented groupies.

I'm not a great fan of Insomnia - generally I turn up at around 5-6am, well tired and pissed off because it's so crowded and I don't recognise any of the music.

But this was great, a good crowd, but space to dance, the overly aggressive Insomnia girls were ignored, we just enjoyed the music. He played until around 4.30 (by which time Anna, some girls and one of our DJ's had come to join us) - and within 15 minutes we were back to the normal lifeless Insomnia style. So I went home. I had had my day!

Holiday in the Andaman

After my birthday, Sam (my son) and I had a day to recover and then headed South.

Our first night was in Chompon. We got there around 8.30pm and like most THai towns at night it was dark and gloomy. We had picked a town centre hotel and immediately hatched a plan - eat and then Kareoke.

That we were staying in Chompon isn't interesting - but going to a Kareoke is. You might have had a night out in one with a bar-fine. If you haven't, then try it. It will open your eyes as to what "being taken care" really means. You begin to understand why some of the girls in Beer Bars do what they do.

Anyway, going in alone is different altogether. Then you get the full treatment ......"you want a girl?" " no, we will just sit down" .

Two arrive anyway. Sit next to us. Serve Samsung soda cokes. The order of two Samsung Cokes is translated as a half bottle by the way. The girls (mine is definitely a woman - she left girlhood a few decades ago) start to massage our arms, thighs and necks. We remark that the singer is pretty - so she comes over is invited to sit next to me - got rid of grandma anyway.
The girls, we now have 4, give up allowing us to only buy them coffee and move on to Spry. They are also helping themselves to our Samsung.

Talk of Bar Fines, Short and Long Times. 500 and 2000 overnight. Nope thanks - we are tired, but thank you.

Tips all round. Total bill for a great 90 minutes when they made us feel like Kings? Around 1200 baht. I've spent that in 5 minutes in Casino.

When I'm taking pictures of customers in the bar I always ask first.

I point out that the pictures might go on the internet and if they are supposed to be skiing in the Alps (yes, this happens a lot), but are actually mongering here in Pattaya, then pictures of them with their nose in a girl's tits in Pattaya could be damaging to their reputation.

Some people rapidly point out that they are "on the sick," "hiding," or simply decline the photo. I had one chap threaten me - and he was simply walking past Anna Jet when the flash went off! I suspect he also was "in hiding"! Anyway, I do believe that you have the right to choose whether to appear on the 'net or not.

I also understand that circumstances change - over the years I've had a number of people e-mail me explaining that Lek/Noi/Mel/Tilak is now a respected Housfrau in the Black Forest and having pictures of her as a bar girl in Pattaya was potentially embarrassing. No Problem. I have always removed the photos.

So, if you are troubled in any way by a picture of you or your partner - simply let me know and I will do my best to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Please don't abuse Anna - she has nothing to do with the web-site - other than starring in it!

Peak Season Bar Fines

On Saturday we were stripped of girls by midnight - so yesterday we moved, as every year to High Season Bar Fines.

The intention is to keep girls in the bar whilst still allowing them to earn their "tips".

So now, the Bar Fine is 300 BAHT as normal - but 500 BAHT for a " Long Time" before midnight.

This will continue until mid February.

Nightlife Update

A friend, Chris, arrived back in town so we went on a quick tour around - he needed a girl and I always welcome a chance to see what's going on.

He had a list that he had culled off the internet forums - luckily, one of the first was What's Up - so it took about 2 milliseconds to choose this as our first point of call. The second we walked in, he knew why. The place just has energy - I nearly had my genitals ripped off as I walked in (actually it really hurt) and Chris quickly acknowledged that the music was good - but the place was too small. I only knew a couple of the girls - my favourites being on "holiday" i.e. Barfined already.

But we had a long list. Back into Walking Street. We went into a new one - Air Port. The service girls wore very smart air hostess gear, but there was nothing else remarkable about it. I think they had a Jacussi and a bit of whipping going on in the back - but frankly, after What's Up....

On to one under Polo with a very forgettable name - where we came across an extraordinary girl squatting naked on a table mat, complete with whip and attitude. Perfect body (she would have rattled), delicate tattoo covering her cesarian scar. Big bluey/black eyes (the eyeshadow). 27 and not from Isaan. I would have ended my search there and then - but no, Chris likes them young. We moved on.

He had never been to Happy - practically a Pattaya Institution. A real disappointment. Happy is owned by the same people as the Beach and Peppermint (the one next to Marine 1). The girls and atmosphere wax and wane - but the service is always impeccable. Until tonight. No one met us at the door, no one helped us find a table or wanted an order. So we walked round and right out again.

Another brief stop at Goodfellas. This place has made a big splash and is above Soi Lucky Star (the one opposite Marine ). Frankly, except for the promotion and probably huge investment in décor it's essentially the same as it's predecessor - and just as empty. I think the concept is a cool hangout with food, pool and music. But it misses out on the essential Pattaya ingredient - girls. I don't think there is anywhere in Pattaya that is sucessful without girls, with the obvoius exception of the shirt-lifters places - so lets change that to Sex. We didn't waste time buying a drink.

Then a long walk up to Utopia. I wanted to check my impressions and get some input from Chris. It didn't disappoint. The girls were just a friendly (more so as I was alone) - and crazy. Chris found a pretty young thing - and with his night secured, we left her and went on to Casino.

I was feeling pretty ill and looking forward to a day off the booze the next day (first day off for 8 days) so we threw a few lady drinks around (they are only 95 baht - and the girl gets 50 baht of it) and I was in my bed by 2am. Chris went on the Shark before going back to Utopia - but he can report on that.

Incidentally, Shark now has a rear entrance (off the soi with the Beach, Angel Witch and What's Up) - so there are now 3 ways of escape should there be anyone on Soi Diamond you don't want to see!

Two new (for me) venues

Last night went out to two very different venues.

The first was the entirely misnamed "DJ Bar' in the Centre Point Complex at the bottom of Soi 8. Misnamed because their only point of interest is their live group! Who were excellent (but of course too loud).

Having been surrounded by demented live groups in Soi 2 for 2 years (we had one of our own for 8 months), I'm not a fan of mispronounced and timed West Coast Rock music ..... no please don't sing Hotel California ....! But these guys were excellent - the lead guitar was as good as I've ever heard - that guy could really make his instrument sing! They played Floyd's Brick in the Wall and the initial instrumental was extraordinary.

Better than Blues Factory? Well the bar certainly wasn't - but the band probably was. The guys I was with were plotting to move them to another location.

But for the time being, check them out at the DJ Bar - Soi 8.

Whilst I was there I was introduced to Steve, a Dubliner who having had a bar in Sirene for a couple of years has now invested heavily in Utopia.

It's on the corner of the new street just along from Covent Garden. He explained that it was an open bar with a few Coyotes downstairs and a Go Go upstairs. I was cynical - upstairs places just never seem to work - but we went along for a look. By now it was pretty late - we were pretty pissed and Anna needed guidance - so we didn't really notice the downstairs bar - we went straight upstairs.

Wow!

The sound system needed work - but lets face it - most people are only interested in the Tottie. And they were lovely.

It was a Sunday, Spurs had just played Man U - so I guess they had had a quiet night - but they were pretty, generous with their smiles and very attentive close up. There wasn't a fat one there.

I was with Anna and still got a bollocking for playing with the girls - it just wasn't possible not to!

Utopia will definitely be a venue for the next Go Go "One and Go" crawl.

The Butterfly Challenge

This has been knocking around for a few months - but we are finally introducing it today.

If you Bar Fine 10 different girls from Anna Jet - I (Peter), will pay the Bar Fine for the 11th.

That's simple isn't it?

How will it work?

When you pay "Bar" you will be given a copy of the girl's name card.
This way you will still know her name the next morning!
Collect 10 cards with different names - pick Number 11 and show the 10 cards to the cashier.
No time limits. (But do remember my days are numbered!)
Remember, this only covers the Bar Fine, the girl will still expect a generous "tip"!

Why?

Well, to be honest, I can only think of 2-3 guys who will take up the challenge (you know who you are). So really it's just a bit of fun - but you do get a memento!

What is much more important is the message this scheme sends to our girls. We have always stressed that you are the customer - and come first (no pun intended).

If you want a girlfriend - you'll have one, if you want to Butterfly .... then that's fine too. Better that you Butterfly with a girl's friends in the bar than go elsewhere.

It's also really important for the guys who stay with us. Maybe I should extend the scheme? "Take a different AJ girl every night of your stay and I'll pay your rent?" Mmmm. What do you think? A Unique Selling Proposition or what?

We work hard to help you enjoy your holiday - and your dime. But we do ask that you are straight with the girls. If you are a Butterfly, make it clear from the outset. Don't make empty promises just because it's the first time you've emptied your sack for months!

Camillian Social Centre Rayong

So our choice for Anna's Birthday collection of the Camillian Social Centre in Rayong was particularly relevant.

We finally managed to get down to Rayong in November and were very impressed by the work they are doing.

The Centre opened in 1995 and initially concentrated on "Palliative Care" ie treating people who were in the critical and terminal stages of AIDS. In 12 years they have treated 1493 people who arrived at this stage - managing to rehabilitate 698 of them back into society. We were told that nowadays, given the right drug therapies, diet and environment, AIDS was now a chronic - but not necessarily terminal disease.

The work of the Centre has broadened and they provide care, particularly to children, for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Children receive the correct Drug Therapies, Diet and Environment. Some have to be educated within the Centre, but many are well enough to attend local Thai schools and mix with other children.

As they grow older they move on to a purpose built Independent Living Centre where they are still supervised and provided for but do their own chores and maintain the home.

Whilst many young adults are now able to find work outside the Centre and join mainstream society there are some who move on to a self supporting farm about 40 kms from the Centre.

They work closely with the Thai Health services and nowadays receive a small proportion of their expenditure from the Government. The rest of the money comes from groups of donors in Italy and England.

We had collected around 30,000 baht from Anna's Party and chipped in a further 5000 - but when we saw just what a good job the centre was doing we managed to get that up to 42,000 with some extra help from Colin and Trevor who came with us. Thank you everyone.

6 nights ...... And we are back. 39 girls signed in ..... Another 4 are with customers. Not bad.

I had hoped to get you some pictures - but decided to wait until everything is finished (2-3 days yet)
So what have we done?
Well I said it was a refurbishment - so actually nothing radical. One thing we have considered is glassing the front, it certainly is the latest trend - but every time we talk to our customers about it they all say that they really like the way you can simply stroll in and out, sit near the street, dance with the girls in the street etc.

We have also considered Air Blades and internal Air conditioning. The advice is that to cover the whole frontage, they simply wouldn't work - and many of our tables and chairs would be directly under the blades - have you ever spent any time under an air-blade?

So:

The motley patch sickly green floor has gone - now a nice rustic pavior effect.
We have moved almost all of the temple upstairs - giving us more working space behind the bar - which has allowed us to actually reduce the overall working area! Christ. We have rebuilt (again) the counter, giving more space to the customer side. It was about 30 cms at the front and probably 50cms along the side. It really has made the bar feel much bigger.
We have moved - and expanded the girls' dancing podium - just a nudge here and there - but you can now sit at a table without a girl's arse in your face (or you can move your chair to get closer again) It's also a nudge higher to save the Voyeurs getting a crink in the neck.
The DJ wanted to show off a bit - so a new DJ spot with Acrylic - again moved a few Cms to make the bar area bigger.
We have extended the toilets into the old kitchen area - so a second trap!
The mice ate the wiring (surprising really given how fat they get eating all the food left for Buddha) so we have had to re-wire.

Have we finished - oh, I forgot, we put a few mirrors around the place as well.

I think we have finished for now - if only because I get so pissed off with the contractors always trying to cut corners and the old Thai Style "looking good on the night ..... useless by the morning".

Visit to the School for the Blind

We think it's important to make a contribution to the community - and for Family Birthdays we always make special donations.
It was Tat's 15th Birthday recently. We went to the School for the Blind - to give a donation and prepare a meal.

For Anna's birthday (1st October) this year we are once again requesting no flowers or gifts - but a donation to the Home for people with HIV in Rayong

Tempory Closure!

After struggling for 5 years with our flooring we are now forced to upgrade it.
But it means we will have to close for a week whilst we do so.
We are also improving the toilets and revamping the wiring at the same time.
So the bar will be closed from Wednesday 17 September. We will re-open the following Wednesday, 24 September. The Guesthouse will be open as usual.
Please accept our apologies - and be assured we will be better for it!

Well, after months, I've finally gone live on the new on-line Availability and Booking system.

It's a free package called php-residence, and I've had all sorts of issues with it - basically because I didn't understand that everything was done for you! Still a lot of work to improve it - but now people can select prospective dates, get told availability and prices. They can then create a booking request. Generally I can confirm the next time I log on.

Don't know about you, but I avoid sending a booking when I don't even know if the email address is still monitored. I want an answer now!

And now - that's what happens with Anna Jet!

Next job: will my Server provider allow me to deploy software so you guys can post your own pictures from Anna Jet?

Slideshow for June 08 is available on the site now.

There are a number of shots that were taken without flash. I love the random colours that are allowed to appear.

Getting it right is hard though .... I've even had to go out and blow 250 quid on a new lens! Hope it's worth it!

I'm also trying a new set - specifically for Mobiles. I've got a Palm Treo 650 and it works very well. On my screen I could easily increase the size of the photo width - but I need some feedback from other users with different phones. Before you ask - no music! Comments please + phone + Operating System.

Street Walk: Pattaya 1.1

I walk a lot around Pattaya, there is always loads to see - but often I feel embarrased about lingering too long in any one place. I get left with loads of mental snapshots. Maybe not just mental.

This really is a style that is alien to me - and I don't know who else is doing it - but in the end .... it intrigues me. What do you think?

A Day out and a slice of history

About 2 hours from Pattaya, the Ancient City (Muang Boran)is somewhere I had heard about but never visited. Thai descriptions of Tourist Attractions tend to be grossly generous - but this is under played. I've lived here 7 years now and this has to be the best place I've visited.

It's in a large park, broadly shaped to the map of Thailand. Scattered (or actually stuffed) into these 320 acres are over 116 significant historical Thai monuments - roughly positioned correctly in the map.

I spent 3 hours there - and was feeling pretty bad with a cold/flu that has been chasing me around for a few days now - but I only saw about a third of the place and was rushing to see that.

So, I thought I'd just pick one section today. The Dvaravati Period.

This refers both to a culture and a grouping of city-states in the lower plain of the Chao Phraya river. We are in the 6-10 century AD, so Bangkok didn't exist (not even Soi Cowboy). The area we are talking about starts 200 km West of Bangkok and extends as far to the East. The Tai people didn't even live here, they were busy running away from the Chinese up in what is now Southern China.

Yesterday I wandered round a Dvaravati style house - and I have to say that they and tha Lanna in the North had, what I would consider the perfect housing style for this climate. A number of small houses, all raised on stilts and clustered around a central courtyard.

The interiors were in beautiful wood - probably Teak, with windows opening into both the courtyard and outside - enabling a air flow. This is somewhere I could spend my time!

There are Estate Agents selling what they call Dvaravati houses (on estates), but they don't quite get there! What would this be worth in Surrey?

What happened to Dvaravati? Those greedy Khmers from Cambodia is what happened!

In the last Slideshow we used a song "Pattaya, Pattaya" which is great fun. I couldn't tell you anymore about it.

Lou came into the bar a few nights ago. I apologised for useing his copyright and he said no problem, it was out of distribution anyway! He did however give me one of the last CDs.

Low Season: the Girls are getting frisky!

Was supposed to go on a crawl a couple of days ago - but the guys let me down - so around 1am went out alone anyway.

Suprise, surprise, I popped into Shark. It was positively scary. 3 punters and around 35 girls, all pissed, flashing and trying to get into my knickers. Believe it or not, I drank my BOGOF drinks and ran away!

Next into Diamond aGoGo. I had been in there a few days before and had been impressed with the way my co-drinker was looked after by 4 girls in there. This time they turned on me: I honestly didn't know which girl was attached to which part of my anatomy - but as they had knickers on at least I didn't have to run away!

On to Casino. Again, managed to get 3 girls and 2 service girls looking after me - but more tastefully!

Anna joined me about 3am.

That will teach all the foreigners who have complained about noise in their lovely villages!
No doubt money will talk and everything will be normal again soon!

For those of you who don't know - the Law in Thailand allows Bars to open 18.00 - 24.00 (or 01.00 in Entertainment zones)!

Today is Pattaya Wan Lai - the main Songkran day here and should mark the end for this year.

I've an idea that it may go on tomorrow (it's Sunday) but Anna is sure that today is the end. So last night we were open all night - dry early on, but then they started the water throwing all over again at around 2am. It was great fun - and we had some very sexy visitors!

I went to bed around 3 and finally got to sleep around 4 - being woken again by the music at 6am! Is this what the Doctors meant by "avoid stress"?

They are messing with the traditional format today - closing Beach Road to traffic and trying to concentrate water throwing to Beach Road. They have also erected 3 stages on the Beach Walk for Thai Bands. That means drunken Thai lads; mauling the girls and knifing each other.

See how it goes - I have my doubts.

Sad, I nearly died last Novemeber and I never even would have heard of the word.

As some of you know, one has to be careful about what is said, the Boys in Brown are watching, but I was really touched by an article in Thailand's second English Language Daily: The Nation.

Karma catching up with political fraudsters

We have heard moaning from politicians who are afraid that their political parties will be dissolved and that they will be barred from active politics for five years.

They blame the Constitution, which has strict stipulations requiring tough punishment for electoral fraud.

During his weekly television talk show, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said that the Constitution reflects Thailand's bad karma.

Some sympathisers of the PPP and their allies went so far as to denounce the constitutional provisions pertaining to election laws as intending to wipe out politicians in large numbers and saying that such actions could lead to a crisis of confidence in the international community, especially among foreign investors.

Looked at from another angle, this is actually karma catching up with habitual election fraudsters, who were successful with their dirty tricks and able to get away either by hook or by crook. This time round, the lawbreakers have been caught with damning evidence, thereby forcing them to resort to hysterical and pathetic acts.

This Constitution was conceived too late for our style of gutter politics and half-baked democracy. Had it been promulgated right after the student uprising that deposed the military regime in 1976, our politics might have undergone a gradual cleansing of politicians with dirty hands and soiled souls, and left a majority of fairly acceptable candidates.

Why do we need the present Constitution, which stipulates harsh requirements for politicians to behave ethically? Understandably, the country has gone through wasteful periods with crooks and charlatans grabbing ruling power and enriching themselves with public money.

For decades, we have had to tolerate politicians with money buying their way into the House and recouping their investments many times over. It is a deep shame that in Asia we rank second after the Philippines as a fertile land for corruption.

This has been made possible by an axis of evil comprising crooked politicians, dishonest civil servants and businesspeople who see the benefit of kickbacks and bribes in winning sweetheart contracts and closing shady deals.

Politicians of good conscience might feel ashamed that this country needs such strict rules for its politicos, as is clearly obvious by those caught red-handed committing contemptible actions who make a lot of noise and demand the law be amended to right their wrongful deeds.

By blaming everybody else for their predicament, politicians with tainted pasts have forgotten that they are able to enjoy their current power with such stratospheric arrogance simply because they won the election under the present Constitution. They have intentionally overlooked the fact that most in the People Power Party Cabinet would not be there if the 111 members of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai party still had their places in the sun. Samak himself is not excluded; he would have been spending much more time in the kitchen and with his cats at home.

Now they have the gall to demand an amendment to the Constitution to suit their needs and prevent the possible dissolution of their party, which would mean that all executive committee members would join the 111 political zombies for five years.

Samak and his fellow party members should be happy that the present Constitution does open a new era for politics with the relatively credible assurance that winners in the election have been adequately screened and assessed.

Why should the international community be upset with our Constitution? Our businesspeople and their foreign counterparts should instead be happy in that they do not have to compete under the table with kickbacks in order to win bids.

Oh yes, they do not have to set aside extra budget to grease the hands of "Mister 30 per cent" or "Madame 30 per cent", whose notorious demands for large bites of the action were a real horror for bidders.

With lower costs, the public would enjoy lower prices and rates for goods and services.

Then we can claim good governance and transparency in the way we conduct business transactions with local or foreign participation. We can let another country assume our ranking among the world's most corrupt nations and take pride that we are the residents in a land with clean hands.

No, it is certain that the lawbreakers still want to dilute the potency of the Constitution for their own self-interest.

Samak and friends should realise that if they push further for constitutional amendments for self-serving purposes, not only do they stand to face the public's wrath, but also the real "people power".

Don't be surprised if karma catches up with them sooner than expected - its speed enhanced by the arrogance of power.

Bar set for March now posted. Feedback will be appreciated, I think I've got over some of the issues with this software now.
There are still some options - one I'm considering is a "Dial-Up version" - the total package now tends to be around 8mbs. So I'll try posting a "Lite" version - smaller pictures, lower quality and maybe pre-caching to speed download times. What about the music though? Half the download is the music file (I already crop and re configure - the last one started at 9mb.)

Had a night out with 3 young lads who are staying with us - they are tall, early 20's and military fit. The girls should have wet their pants as soon as they walked into a Go-Go.

We started across the road in the newly named "Sexy Go Go" (ex Blue Angels). The decor has improved but obviously they are still constarined by space. Frankly it was a drag. The only girl that showed any interest was the skinny thing that I posted a few months back. It was my first visit since they changed ownership - and probably my last. Expect to see another ownership change pretty soon I think.

Then down to Silver Star 2 after a really scary run through all the girls in Soi 7! Silver Star was packed with girls - including some very pretty ones - but they again were too shy for our team. It was around 10pm, I know my girls would have had their trousers off (and they had already).

Moving past the sadly closed Goldfingers (shame, I had planned testing their skills at Ladyboy identification) we went to Worldwide Go Go. There was a small show in progress and once it was over the girls got stuck-in. Full marks to them - but none of them won my 100 baht challenge (want to know what this is? Invite me on a Go Go crawl.)

Moving on to Pattayaland. This has got really sad, some of the Go Gos have been converted to Boy Go Go's. Mistys was still there however - but alas, they seem to have abandoned the sexy black body suites (or have they sold them to Angel Witch?). However the girls were enthusiast about the challenge and obviously enjoying their work. But we were on one-and-go so the the uncomfortable youngsters were primed for the next girls!

Walking Street - tried Angel Witch and was very impressed. It was packed, both floors, and after a few minutes it was clear why. They have now developed their shows to the same or better quality than they achieved in Nana Plaza. They had very attractive girls, the shows were professional and much sexier than in Nana. They were slow starters in the Pattaya location - but I'll bet they are minting it now. Well done. And take the time to go there when you are next in Town.

But onwards ..... long walk to Club Boeche (especially as it was via Shark Club .... but then we never mention Shark Club .... DO WE!)

I felt it had gone off the boil a bit - the girls tame (to be fair, everwhere is tame after Shark) and not many attractive ones at that. I bought one of the Jaccusi girls a drink and she then was kind enough to tell Anna when she came to join us. (I hate that, and we are always telling our girls not to do it).

We headed back to Happy, still one of the best on Walking Street, good music, well disciplined serving staff and pretty girls out of their heads. It ain't Rocket Science but so few can do it.

Off to Diamond, but the Fuzz were there first. Some sort of purge - so back to Anna Jet by 3.30am whilst the lads went via the new MacDonalds on 2nd Road.

Oh, did anyone win the 100 baht challenge? The girls in Shark certainly did! But you expected that didn't you.

Thanks for the many messages of suport. I am now through - 3 bypassess - and I'm out of intensive care and rid of drips, catheters and drains (these last are really something you don't want to encounter).
No rebirth experiences - but deeply gratefull to the Cardiac Team at Bangkock pattaya hospital.
Should be out of hospital by Saturday evening - but will be keeping a low profile for the next month or so. Might even do some revisions to the Web Site. So I will miss High Season at Anna Jet - always a really enjoyable time. Peter

Where is Peter?

Some may have noticed I haven't been in the bar this week - ask one of the girls and you will get anything that springs to mind: "Gone back to his country, on holiday, not well".

Well, the truth is I'm in Hospital.

On Tuesday I was suffering from acute and incredible indigestion which was so gassy that it was causing chest pain. Anna insisted on taking me across the road to Pattaya Memorial - all the time with me sobbing that all I needed was a fart.

The staff at Memorial checked me over gave me loads of shots and arranged for one of Bangkok Pattaya's super mobile CCU and there I was, complete with sirens blaring on my way to BP hospital.

I was rapidly turned into a pin cushion and covered with electrodes - all of which confirmed a Heart Attack.

"This doesn't happen to me! I'm not some over weight boozer living on Fast Food, Alchol and Fags, who never excercises. Nor do I ever get stressed! "

Actually, a minutes reflection showed that this was a pretty accurate description.

Anyway ... I woke up to two hours on a robotised hospital bed with a huge sensing head zooming up and around all over the place. Occasionally I could see on the monitors. They were trying to open up the blocked arteries feeding my heart muscles. They had made an incision in my groin and were pushing tubes up the artery to the blockages.

I've always said that Thai Girls know that the fastest way to a guy's heart is through his groin (European girls believe it's through their stomach) - the evidence was there!

At least four blockages - one very old, one they managed to repair (which is why I'm writing this) and two left that they gave up on.

So where am I? Sitting in my Hospital room, feeling fine (but a trifle nervous) awaiting a triple (or even quadruple) heart bypass operation tomorrow morning.

Prognosis is good for everything except our bank balance! I doubt I'll be able to update you for about 5 days.

In the meantime, if you are in Pattaya, then do please pop in and see Anna. She is very nervous - worried her nagging has sent me to an early grave!

Cheer her up will you, for me please?

Trip to Europe

Firstly, a slideshow of some of the 1400 pictures we took is now on the web site.

It was a long trip - just over 3 weeks. Actually the longest holiday I have ever had! We had been to the UK together twice before - so I wanted to show Anna a bit more of Europe. Some friends were arranging a trip to stay in a Villa in Italy - so that drove the location and timing.

The locations were excellent - though there was a little too much exploration of architecture and not enough shopping for Anna's preferences! But Paris was a disaster - just too cold for either of us. I love Paris - it's a great city to stroll around, but we were just too cold! Anna swears she will never go back!

We got back to the bar in the early evening - it was great - after nearly 24 hours behind glass, we were both struck by how good the girls looked, music, atmosphere - everything. We had a great night, got really pissed and went out until 7am! Then we were both ill! Hopefully, you get the same experience when you arrive (without getting ill)!

I'm trying out a new slideshow format - it loads faster and has better quality - but I can't work out a way to add the music. Short of learning Flash I don't think I can sort it out. I don't really understand this - but it looks as if Feeds are a way to check for updates automatically (and other things). If you are using IE7, then you will see a funny icon (mine is between the little house (Home) and the print button. Normally it's grey. If it goes Orange, that means a Feed is available.
Click the button, follow the simple instructions and in your Favourites panel you will have a new section - Feeds. You will find the site you activated shown there. Hover and it will show you whether the page has been updated (it is checked by your computer automatically - I think even without IE being open) - if it has - clicking will take you there!
The main Anna Jet site doesn't have a Feed. This Blog does.
When I make updates, I will post them on the Blog - and you will know without actually loading the site.
Bye the way - the feed is a simple machine print - won't show any pictures or stuff.
Saves a click or two.

Opening new Disco : Mixx

Last night we were invited to the opening.
It's a very expensive undertaking - right at the far end of Walking Street - actually on the square by the Bali High pier.
Taking a leaf out of some of the clubs on RCA, it's actually got two separate areas: Hip-Hop and House with a short corridor joining them.
It's on the third floor of an up-market shopping mall and you take a glass enclosed lift to get there. You arrive in the Hip Hop section - theme is plush red with bad reproductions of nude 'old masters' around the walls.
We walked through as rapidly as possible into the House room - all in white, fabric banners on the ceiling and a huge plastic modern style light fitting that kept changing colour. Sound system was good ( funnily, supplied by the same people who supply us). The dance floor was a sort of dry swimming pool and quite small given the size of the place. Lighting levels were on the bright side.
Like at most openings there were lots of people and many already had clubs so there was a great deal of interest.

They had a European DJ and I simply couldn't stay too long. He was playing the same boring style of House as they play in Insomnia. No melody, just electronic beat with the occasional electronicly modified growns as singing. This stuff is so boring and a world away from Anna Jet, Casino and Marine.

Insomnia must be the No1 club at the moment, it's packed from about 4am. It's popularity is derived from them doing cheap drinks for girls and like everywhere else, where the girls go, the guys follow! I've hated it for about 3 months now - it's too crowded and the music too boring. I haven't stayed long enough to even finish a drink!

Lucifer has always had discounted drinks for girls and Mixx is issueing 50percent discount cards to girls. We tried to use one for my drink and were told it was for unaccompanied ladies only (same as Lucifer and Insomnia).

However, Marine is finally fighting back - they have ripped a lot of seating out of Marine 2, substituting with tables and stools. They have also cut Heinken prices (I think for girls only) to 100 baht. This is still bad compared with the 65 charged in Insomnia, but it's something. The only thing I like about Marine is the music (and, I guess, the tradition) so I'm happy they still aren't responding enough - gives me room to dance!

Anyway, back to Mixx. They were kind enough to invite us and I wish them well. I'm sure they will get reasonable custom from Thais if they are staying open late (I think the late night "The Beat" on Soi 4 has closed). But it's long walk from the main sections of Walking Street - lonely too. A bit like the walk to Boom in the old days. Maybe people from Jomtien will be happy - it's more convenient for them!

Escape - Koh Phangan

After a very dangerous and expensive night in Charlies Angels go-go followed by drunken meanderings around the Black Moon party, I decided I had better move on!

250 baht got me a taxi and boat ticket to Phangan and Hat Riin. This of course is the Home of the Full Moon Party. Since I was recovering from a Black Moon party I felt I would be safe!

The boat trip was depressing - no one under 16 seemed to be aboard! As I treckked (is this the correct backpacker term?) from the boat pier my impressions were confirmed. I was in a land populated by strapping boys carrying rugby balls and very pretty girls - the best speaking Hebrew. Hell, so what if I was "street furniture" again, I was here to explore and take pictures.

Hat (Haad) Rinn was completly unexpected. I had heard about the Full Moon parties and had understood that what made the venue unique was that one side faced the sunrise whilst the other faced sunset. And that is true. What they don't tell you is that there is a small hill and town separating the two. I had imagined a long sand-bar - what I found was a penninsula with a distinct hill at the end. Like Phi Phi, the town is bars, restaurants (showing movies) and Internet/travel agents.

Planning to be up with the sun, I was back in the hotel room before midnight - setting my alarm for 05.30. Still awake at 01.00, I abandoned my early start and cancelled the alarm. Luckily, and with great consideration, Anna called me at 05.00 to ask me what was today's date? So that was my night's sleep! Were the shots worth it? Well the rising sun was covered by clouds - but I'm sure there were one or two "keepers".

Then a hair rasing taxi ride to a dual bay up in the North East - Thong Yai Pan. The road was mainly a sandtrack - winding it's way through the mountains. Beautiful. Thankful that I hadn't opted to hire a bike.

The two bays are really beautiful - white sands, bungalow resorts (not sure about these - mine hasn't got a TV) and not an Estate Agent in sight. Bliss.

But ....... boring at night! I remember I went Koh Samet at this time last year with my son Sam. We were asleep by 10pm. Hat Rinn had quite a few people but here ....... Probably only 2-300 tourists spread between the two bays. The restaurants are lonely - they don't even show movies - how much does that cost for Christ's sake? These guys are living the dream - untill the money runs out.

And NO GIRLS! The thing about Pattaya, Patong and Bangkok is no matter how quiet things get - there are always GIRLS, and they always fancy you! Here there are so many Caucasian nubiles desperatly seeking their holiday bunk-up and (as Anna once said) giving it away free the Thai girls have given up. Never seen this before - even Phi Phi had girls hanging around. If anything, what I've seen is European girls with Thai guys. Wonder if their wives are as understanding as the Thai guys who live off their girlfriends?

Tomorrow I've a flight back to Bangkok at 8pm. So normal service will resume. Anna says we have been doing really well - so maybe I'll be travelling again soon!

Are these islands a substitute for Pattaya? Well, no.
Phangan is a beautiful island and far less developed that Koh Chang - I certainly plan to come back - but I spend about 48 weeks a year in Pattaya. You guys get the chance to get to Pattaya for 2-4 weeks. You would be disappointed if you used some of this in the islands.

Escape to Samui.

Had to get away. Visas all done. So get away - from everything!
Two nights so far, staying at P&P Resort on Cheweng beach. Have stayed here a few times, nothing special but it's mid range (1150/night) for a beach place but still 3 minutes from Soi Green Mango.

It's about 2 years since I've been here. Lots has changed. The really busy bit of Chaweng has been made one-way - heading SE. You come back on a new road by the lake - a nightmare at night - no lights.

As in Pattaya, lots of places have changed or simply disappeared! Upmarket restaurants have replaced the mid-range pubby places. My favorite - Ninja, is still here but it's cleaner, new menu and staff. No sign of the Japanese guy who used to run it (presuambly the Ninja) or his wife. But they might still run the place, they now have another in Lamai and a "Garden Resort" to boot.

The new "terminal" is in operation - still unique and a tribute to Bangkok Airways who had the balls to build the airport in the first place. I'm split between admiration and resentment for them. They did, afterall, open Samui up - but are now harvesting the rewards. Same as their flight to Siam Reap - they are the only ones to fly and can therefore charge about a 30 percent premium. Their travel service is even slicker than AOT - you simply don't think to choose another taxi service - but their taxi to Cheweng was 500 baht - it should be 2-300!

I love Chaweng - fantastic beach (except Dec - Feb), good style in Soi Green Mango (even 3, very shy, Go-Go's) but the rest of the island is getting really bad. It's just being turned into luxury resorts and housing. You can buy your own piece of beach frontage - but since everyone else is doing it - it's the only beach you can go on! All the little coves, headlands and views are now fenced off. Yesterday I got up at 05.30 (yes, really) to look around on a motorbike and had to fit a really long lens to take pictures - I couldn't get within 500 meters of the sea!

The corruption is also obvious. Thai law prevents building on slopes in excess of 45 degrees. Here, it resembles the stuff that was built in Spain (before they fell down), houses hanging off cliffs and mountain slopes. I took the bike up a peak near Lamai - the road was so steep that eventually I was so scared that I got off and walked! But everywhere new villas were being built - terraces hanging out over the mountain-side. How long these places last will be very interesting (to me) and tragic for the investors. If they don't collapse, the Thais will take them back - they have probably got illegal Land Documents.

The "Influential people" will simply wait for the money to be laundered (buy a football team?) , check which haven't collapsed and then arrange for them to be taken over again. The prices are so high that probably the buyers are Bank Robbers or Casino owners - so no harm done. Just hope someone hasn't sunk his pension into them!

Q Bar (ex Bangkok) has also opened since I was here last. A couple of Klicks out of Chaweng and near the peak of a hill. Magnificent position. I arrived as they opened at 6pm - really just wanting to take pictures from their terrace. I left at 7 - the only customer. I was surprised, I thought the smart set would be there for 'Sundowners'. Apologies - I'm late. They are all taken but I need to caption and build the slide-show.

Got distracted you see. We bought a Video Camera (for all those firsts with babies). You guessed it. I'm up to my neck in Video editing. Whole new experience and a very steep learning curve. Believe it or not, I can't use my PC at the moment - it's got 8 hours to go to complete a 33 hour processing job! I can't believe it! Admittedly I'm following a slightly different workflow to Adobe's recommendation - but this is crazy! It is sheduled to complete around 05.00 tomorrow morning.

So, promise, the pictures will be my first job when I wake up.

Video's of Anna Jet? Yes, that is certainly on the plan. In fact the "footage" is in the "can" (impressed?) but I've still got a long way to go. A new animation for Anna's birthday and Visa's for Europe are ahead in the queue.

How important is music to Anna Jet?

Well, it certainly costs money!

When we opened the bar in Soi 2, we spent around 26,000 baht. Sony music centre and 4 speakers. Terrible! But pretty typical of most bars (in fact better than most).

Four years ago when we opened Anna Jet we rented Denon DJ kit but only used locally made amps and speakers. Our first DJ pawned the new kit, replaced it with 2nd hand stuff and did a runner with 3 months rent! The owners were looking for him for months but accepted that we were innocent parties and just left us with the 15 year old kit! The DJ? He was probably found in a ditch somewhere.

So 3 years ago we had to buy new Denon dual CD players and a mixer. Cost around 65,000 baht. Last year we upgraded our amps, installed a cross-over and 6 new speakers - about 110,000 baht.

This summer we've upgraded our outside speakers and we've just had to replace the Denon kit. 3 years life (and yes we had had them serviced) seems pretty short so this time we have changed to Pioneer. Got a really good discount and only had to fork out 54,000 baht.

Joe is like a pig-in-shit: stickers plastered all over his little booth and is scratching and stuff.

I'm working out how many Heinekens we have to sell to pay for it all!

Tips

People sometimes ask about tipping.
Tips are important - the basic pay is very low and tips and incentive payments made by the bar should be far higher than the daily salary.

Firstly, the general rule is that if you give a tip directly to someone - then it is seen as personal to them - it is not put into the general 'Tip' and shared.

Money that has been left in the change tray goes into the general tip. It is then shared by the girls who have worked in the bar from 5pm to when the bar closes.
This means that girls who are late, have been bar-fined or who opt to go home at 3am (but before we close): will not share the tip.
This feels pretty fair - especially since we often don't close until after 5am.

Some special tips:
You may see customers sticking notes to the ceiling and the girls climbing the pole to get the money with their teeth. This money goes in the general tip - some can do it, some can't, so they share it.

When someone uses a room for a short-time, the girl who has been bar-fined will give a 50 baht tip to whoever goes up cleans and changes the sheets. Again - spreading the 'Good Luck' around.

How much should I tip? Obviously it's your choice - but (unless we have really pissed you off) leave something!
If I'm in a bar that has been boring and the only conversation was with a tranny: leave the coins. If the bar has been OK and I've had a few drinks: leave the coins and the 20's. Somewhere Anna and I go regularly and we have stayed an hour or more: probably 2-300 baht.

Lastly, there's 'grope tipping'. I hate to see a guy all over a girl and not giving her anything. At least a few drinks - and if you've really had fun then at least 1-200 baht. You might have had fun - but give her something for the trouble!

Soi 7 - new Go-Go's

The Go-Go opposite has been open for about a month now. It's called Blue Angel. Pretty girls, and the boss Gow is great fun. The uniform is little white skirts and tops. Gow is pretty mean though - she has failed provide any knickers!
Honestly, it's too small to be a great sucess but a lot of fun can be had never the less. Works well with Anna Jet and can be a useful escape. I just announce that I'm going to "du hoy" and go over there!
Check it out next visit.

Silver Star have also opened in the old Faulty Towers restaurant. Much bigger than their place in Soi 8. Tasteful nighties and a Jaccusi. A bit bright for my taste but can be fun!

Introducing Nan

Years ago, when we were talking about staying together, I told Anna that I couldn't give her a child because I had had a vasectomy. Her English was still very poor and with hindsight it became obvious that she hadn't understood when she kept asking why she wasn't pregnant!

Whilst she loves Tat (her son), she really longed for a daughter.

Last Autumn, Anna's sister Nam gave birth to a baby girl and after much debate in the family it was agreed that the baby (Nan) should be brought up by us. Incidentally, Nam is now pregnant again.

So now we have a daughter. Anna is over the moon! Me? Delighted for Anna, Nan has already found a place in my heart .... but, hell, I'm 54 .... this was not on the plan!

Nan is normally on show in the bar between 3-6 pm. Pop in and see her. (You could buy a drink too - I'm losing sleep about my ever receeding retirement now that there is one more mouth to feed and educate!)

DJ Joe is currently running around showing everyone pictures of the twins that have recently been born to his ex-girlfriend Ice. He is confident that they are his - they are both bald, brown and big. We will only know for sure when we see them mixing! So a few years yet!

There are lots of things wrong with the web-site - but one piece of feedback I always get is that people like it's speed and simplicity. But I also know that people want to know what's going on.

So I thought I'd try a Blog.

Comments are welcome - maybe we will drop the forum and this will substitute. If you get too abusive then I'll delete/edit posts!

Pattaya has far too many forums already - lets just keep this about Anna Jet and it's community. So it's about our family, girls (and blokes) and the bar/guesthouse.
